I didn’t see the original post because you deleted it, but I’m going to just expand on this because it needs to be said.
Telling someone with an eating disorder that they shouldn’t be losing weight or that they look fine doesn’t help them and usually exacerbates the situation. I struggle myself with eating issues, every calorie is a struggle and I’m currently in outpatient therapy. The best thing for you to do is to validate their feelings and to offer them healthy alternatives.
What she did was shame someone for having an eating disorder, like I originally said (eating disorder or no) there’s no shame in losing ten pounds (if you want to). It isn’t right to tell someone that they are ‘thin enough and should just stop’ especially when they’re never going to agree with you and will continue in their unhealthy habits. I support people wanting to improve their bodies, provided they stay within their healthy weight range and do it properly.
Just remember, just because it is aimed at someone who isn’t bigger, doesn’t mean that it’s not shaming.
